Herpes is a contagious sexually transmitted disease that is caused by a virus known as the herpes simplex virus. The herpes simplex virus exists in two types – the HSV-1 virus that causes oral herpes often known as cold sores and the HSV-2 virus that causes genital herpes. Most people wonder what causes herpes outbreaks. Well, outbreaks occur once infected individuals contract the disease. The virus will remain dormant in their system but after some time it will replicate and come to the surface. During this time, the virus displays very painful symptoms that are uncomfortable in most cases. The HSV-1 type causes sores and blisters in and around the infected individual’s mouth but it can easily be transmitted to the genital area through oral sex.
The HSV-2 is commonly transmitted through sexual activity such as anal or vaginal sex and at times oral sex. The HSV-1 virus on the other hand is transmitted through oral body fluids contact during kissing or through skin to skin contact with cold sores. The two show almost similar symptoms due to their molecular similarity and any medical progress made on one will definitely be a breakthrough on the other. On entrance to the body, the herpes virus attaches itself to the nervous system and stays in latent state until it begins to reactivate again causing the outbreak symptoms like painful blisters or sores.
Doctors have not yet made a discovery as to what causes herpes outbreaks as this will be an obvious breakthrough in finding medications that will ensure the virus never reactivates. Most infected individuals will attest that they had an outbreak after certain instances making it possible to identify several common triggers believed to be behind herpes outbreaks. The most common cause of the herpes outbreaks is stress. Emotional stress, such as depression and anxiety, and physical stress such as fatigue are great triggers. The stress causes the virus to reactivate possibly causing an outbreak.
Immune suppression that might be triggered by sickness, infection, steroidal medications or surgery might also cause an outbreak. The body produces antibodies that adapt to the virus operations and before an outbreak, the antibodies work against the virus operations ensuring the outbreak is impossible. In case of sickness the body will not produce antibodies that fight against the disease allowing the virus to quickly replicate and start the outbreaks. Vigorous sex or friction during masturbation might also cause an outbreak since the resulting sore might reactivate virus which will hinder the healing of the sore
Infected people are advised to have clean and dry genital areas. In case of extreme sweating or wearing tight clothes the genitals will get wet causing for the virus to quickly reactivate causing an outbreak with the painful symptoms that are experienced during an outbreak. Alcohol consumption in excessive amounts is also bad as alcohol without food lowers the body’s immunity and the antibodies will not be able to fight the virus. Maintaining a healthy diet and proper medication will see that the outbreaks are not frequent. A proper diet ensures the body is strong with perfect immunity. The anti-viral medications suppress the symptoms that come with the outbreaks.
